Morning y’all 🌧️💙⚾️ Teaching my kids..You might not be where you want to be. But you’re exactly where you need to be. Don’t pout about it- trust yourself and your abilities to pivot and give it your all. 💪

Last season all 3 of my kids were Pitchers and Shortstops. They’ve honestly never experienced being on a team where they weren’t one of the top players. This season has been a major adjustment as we transitioned them all out of rec. Coincidentally they all have primary outfield positions now. If you know then you know how outfield is falsely perceived as a “boring position” or like a “punishment position”. Especially to younger kids. To my two youngest kids it feels like the worst thing that could happen in their little softball/baseball journeys. 😮‍💨My oldest embraced it and actually loves her outfield position lol.

But my son (9) who joined a new team and league this year was having the worst time adjusting. 🥲 He went from playing with kids who he could dominate over skill wise. To playing with kids who could leave him in the dust. Literally 🤣 He’s not the only one with speed. He left a good portion of his friends and this is like his 4th baseball team in the last 2 years. (He’s a rec player and we moved plus one season he played through where I worked) anyway back to the topic. Point was he’s had a lot of changes this ⚾️ season.

Last night was his first game of the season. Each time Coach called out his team’s position it was “Landen left field” And each time his little head dropped as he trotted over to his spot. Even got smart at one point and me and his dad had to check him mid trot to his position on the field 😭 Now last season I’ll give it to him they were playing way less skilled kids so the outfield didn’t get motion unless it was off of error throws. But this new league these boys are all hitting hard and far! So me, his dad, coaches etc are reminding him whole game stay alert, be ready, pay attention. I promise you my boy will be out there hitting the quan so damn quick and forget he’s in a game 😭😅 hints why it’s no rush to put him in travel. Pony league only for now 🤣 But yeah he’s doing his part running to back up his teammate on 3rd and center field. We’re a little passed halfway through the game and the only left field action was a ground ball being hit hard and rolling right by him until IT happens. The play that made my boy’s night and changed his perspective.

Batter up and after A beautiful pitch from our pitcher he knocks it straight to left field. High up in the air and soaring babyyyyy. Even the sound of the ⚾️ connecting with the bat was purrrrrrty. I forgot what team I was on and cheered for the boy for a second 🥴 Focused and alert my boy tracks it and secures it right in his glove. The crowd legit goes crazy. These parents don’t know his daddy drills pop flys on him and his sisters or what he was capable of. It’s the first game of the season. He throws it back in and looks in my direction and does the cutest smile and shrug. 🥳 The rest of the game he’s on it. Paying attention and ready for action. Nothing else happened but still he now knows something might happen and he needs to be ready for it. He now knows his time practicing at practice and in the field with us paid off. He now knows he has it within him and Coach put him where he was needed. It’s one thing for us to tell him it’s another for him to see it.

When he gets to the car his dad is hyping him up. “You hear that crowd yell for you boy?” He asked grinning proudly. And all non-chalant and cool like my son laughs and tries to play it off. Like he ain’t already tell me his chest was beating so hard 🤣 Jokingly I said to my husband “this definitely ain’t how you get get out of outfield tho.” Surprisingly my son says “I guess outfield isn’t so bad. I like it now” After some “mmhmms” and I told you sos from his big sister the conversation dies off. When we get home he tells me he doesn’t even want to be a pitcher anymore lol. His dad ain’t going for that but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. 🫣

Point is…the last couple of months/weeks have been an adjustment for them. We’ve been reassuring them if the Coaches didn’t believe in what you could do you wouldn’t be there….so stop focusing on what you want and focus on what the team needs. Show out. 👉🏽 In life you ain’t always be in the position you want to be in. 👉🏽 Things won’t always go like you want or expect it to. But only the strong survive. 👉🏽 Trust yourself and give it your all so when the smoke clears…..you’re still standing. 💪 💨
